Vote at 16 My Life My Choice

This is a short video competition for young people living in Wales. Make a video for TikTok or Instagram Reels about how local elections affect young people’s lives. We will help you develop an idea, film your video and edit it. The winner will receive a £150 voucher.

What is the competition about?

Local council elections will take place in Wales in May 2027. You can vote in them from the age of 16. Local councils make decisions about public transport, parks, sports facilities, youth spaces, housing and other things we see and use every day. Use the language of TikTok to tell other young people why it is important to vote and how they can do it. Your video could be a story, sketch, interview, mini-report, animation or something completely different. ‘My Life, My Choice’ is the slogan of our competition. But if you do not use your right to vote, other people will make those choices for you.

Who can take part?

• You are aged 16 to 21.
• You live in Wales.
• You have an active TikTok account where you can post your video. Your account and the post must remain public until voting closes on 8 January 2027.
• You do not need any filming or editing experience. You just need to be interested and willing to give it a try.
• If you are under 18, you will need permission from a parent or guardian to take part and publish your video.

What do you need to make?

• A short vertical video in 9:16 format for TikTok or Instagram Reels.
• The video must be no longer than 90 seconds. Around one minute is ideal.
• You can film it on your phone.
• You can make the video in any language. If it is not in English, add English subtitles.
• The video must be your own work and must fit the competition theme.

What is not allowed?

• Campaigning for a political party or an individual candidate.
• Insults, bullying, hate speech or dangerous behaviour.
• Music, photographs or videos made by someone else, unless you have permission to use them.
• Footage of anyone who has not agreed to be filmed and appear in the published video.
• If anyone aged 17 or under appears in the video, you must also provide written permission from their parent or guardian.
