What is SRCDC about –

The Centre, based in the South Riverside area of Cardiff and the charity’s area of benefit, are the electoral wards of Riverside, Grangetown, and Canton.

South Riverside Community Development Centre is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a registered charity based in Cardiff. Set up around 1975, and registered as a charity in 1978, SRCDC bought its premises in 1987 and renovated the Centre building.

The Brunel Street Centre receives an income from room hire, events and office facilities, multipurpose hall and accommodates a wide range of autonomous groups advice facilities and community garden.

SRCDC has piloted and developed several services that have become either separate community organisations (Cardiff Repairs for the Elderly Scheme, Riverside Advice) or have become absorbed into mainstream statutory services.

SRCDC also works in partnership with a network of other organisations.

The Trust provides a Young Children & Parents Project, including a staffed Parent & Toddler Group, children’s craft sessions and development of play and child care services in the area.

The Trust offers a Community Access to Lifelong Learning Project and Adult Learners events and associated development work with older people. SRCDC also manages the Wyndham Street Centre which has also helped support the development of Riverside Food Co-op and supports Communities First Programmes in the area.

SRCDC ‘s Riverside Warehouse Project has been established as a third community base which is developing exciting young people’s provision.

SRCDC is currently is developing childcare and play training and provisions through a community enterprise.

Location and Area of Benefit

The Centre, based in the South Riverside area of Cardiff and the charity’s area of benefit, are the electoral wards of Riverside, Grangetown, and Canton.

The area of benefit has a population of 9,500. Most members, and users of the Centre, are from the local community in South Riverside, with a very diverse population of 6,000 in terms of ethnicity, country of origin, and religion (between a third and half are Black & Ethnic Minority communities). Thus, the Centre services aim to be inclusive in terms of staff employment and volunteers, language provision, and the meeting of cultural and religious needs.
